TOEFL CERTIFIED TESTING SITE AT WINSLOW CENTRE
January 23, 2006
For Immediate Release:
Coquitlam, BC … The International Education Program of School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) is pleased to announce that its Winslow Campus was approved today as a certified test administration site for ETS (Educational Testing Service) Internet based tests the first of which shall be the new TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) iBT (Internet-Based Test) English Language Proficiency Examination.
The TOEFL iBT examination is the international benchmark for assessment of English language competency for academic purposes. The world’s most widely used English language assessment test - TOEFL is recognized by thousands of universities, governments and private sector employers. The TOEFL iBT test has reinvented itself to meet the technical demands of Internet-based delivery and security.
ETS of Princeton, New Jersey issued the ETS Certified Test Administration Site (CTAS) qualification to the School District for the Winslow Site on January 23, 2006. Thus the school district was welcomed to the world’s largest Internet-based testing network. A rigorous build-out process was begun by the School District just a few months ago and after qualification of several staff members, Ms. Patricia Gartland, District Principal – International Education, and Robert Lajoie, Marketing Manager – International Education, lead the way to become Certified Test Centre Administrators. Since then, six computer labs and several staff members were assessed and certified.
This certification is a natural extension of the International Education Division’s drive for excellence in language training. This testing program complements our international English learning services such as our “Get Connected” ESL program and our TOEFL and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test preparation programs. At Winslow Campus, as one of the only certified test centres in the Lower Mainland, students seeking post-secondary educational opportunities will be able to participate in ESL readiness programs, practice TOEFL examinations, and now the official ETS TOEFL iBT examination.
